Hotel Indigo Bath Review: A Stylish Stay in Historic Bath

We’ve visited the UNESCO listed city of Bath many times but this was our first time staying in Hotel Indigo Bath. It won’t be our last time – we will definitely be back.

This recently opened, 4-star boutique hotel is perfectly placed for walking to Bath’s major attractions. It’s packed with character and charm and its Georgian surroundings and decor will make you feel like you’re an extra in ‘Bridgerton’ or a Jane Austen movie.

Hotel Indigo Bath is set in a Grade I listed, honey-coloured Georgian terrace on South Parade, just metres from Bath city centre.

It opened in September 2020 after a multi-million-pound restoration project. It offers luxury accommodation with all the excellent amenities you’d expect to find from IHG, one of the world’s largest hospitality groups.

There are 154 rooms to suit all budgets and needs. If you’ve stayed in Indigo Hotels before, you’ll know that no two hotels are the same as each property is designed to fit in with its surroundings. In Hotel Indigo Bath, the rooms reflect the architects and novelists who helped to make Bath famous.

If you prefer something a little more intimate, the hotel has a separate private house  ‘No 5 Pierrepont St’, which offers eight en-suite guest rooms, a lounge, and a private courtyard.

Everything you need is in this hotel but if you want more dining or entertainment options, the pubs, bars and restaurants in Bath city centre are just a few minutes walk away.

Bath Abbey

The hotel has excellent transport links. It’s located 10 miles /16 kms from the M4 motorway (the main route to London) and only 19 miles / 31 kms from Bristol International Airport.

Bath railway station is only 0.2 miles / 322 metres from the hotel so it’s a perfect choice if you’re travelling by train

It’s a 5 minute walk or just over 300 metres to the Roman Baths and Bath Abbey. It’s a 6 minute walk to Pulteney Bridge and 13 minutes to the Jane Austen Centre.

The rooms are spread over six floors (with a lift) and include standard and premier rooms plus larger suites with a separate living area.

Our room was super stylish and cosy and I didn’t feel as if I was staying in a chain hotel. It was packed with character, comfort and style.

All of the spacious rooms are equipped with comfortable Hypnos beds with luxury Egyptian cotton linens, air-conditioning, Nespresso coffee machines, high speed Wi-Fi and a 40” TV. There’s a desk, mini fridge with complimentary drinks and snacks, tea and coffee making facilities and a safe.

Rooms have a King sized bed or twin beds and there are several rooms which are accessible by wheelchair users.

My highlight was the incredible bathrooms. I felt like I was in a luxury spa! Each ensuite has a walk-in rainfall shower or roll-top bath, luxury Molten Brown toiletries, heated fluffy towels plus robes and slippers.

Breakfast is included in the room rate and I thought it offered a good variety of continental and hot plate options.

There are two dining options in the hotel.

The Elder is an independent, fine dining restaurant owned by award-winning restaurateur Mike Robinson. It focuses on serving exceptional, locally sourced, seasonal food.

You’ll enjoy bespoke cocktails and a 7 course set dinner in elegant surroundings of leather sofas, sash windows and a gorgeous bar with an Art-Deco vibe. Tempting dishes include butter-roasted mallard with homemade hoisin sauce and Bathurst Estate venison with beetroot and elderberry.

It’s a little pricey for everyday dining but it’s perfect for an indulgent treat.

The Elder is open Wednesday to Saturday from 6 pm – 11 pm.

You can also dine at Brasserie Beau which is run by a Michelin star winning chef. It has seating for 100, an outdoor terrace and serves dishes made solely from British ingredients. Options include Hereford Cross sirloin steak and a beef bourguignon and Shiitake pie. I highly recommend the 12 hr French onion soup with gruyère sourdough croutons – it was amazing.

In addition to dinner, Brasserie Beau offers value for money daily lunch specials plus you can try a traditional roast dinner on a Sunday.

Brasserie Beau is open everyday from 12 pm to 9:30 pm.

Guests can also enjoy In-room dining from 12 am – 10 pm.

There is a small gym in the vaulted basement of the hotel featuring weights and cardio machines. I promise you won’t have worked out anywhere quite like this – you’ll feel as if you’re in Hogwarts cellars!

The gym is open daily from 6 am – 10 pm.

There are limited on-site, valet parking spaces in a secure gated carpark which cost £40 per car per night. Pre booking is essential.

However, if the hotel car park is full, there’s also two fee-paying public car parks available nearby. Manvers Street costs £18 for 24 hours whilst Southgate car park is a little cheaper at £16 for 24 hours.

Hotel Indigo Bath offers a pick-up dry cleaning service, luggage storage and daily housekeeping.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Indigo Hotel Bath.

I think the unbeatable location makes the hotel stand out from its competitors. Bath is a city made for walking and the last thing you want after a long day sightseeing is a long walk back to your hotel. Hotel Indigo Bath is just 5 minutes from the city centre.

Plus, if you’re travelling by train, you’ll only have a short walk with your luggage between the hotel and train station.

I found the staff welcoming and friendly; the reception staff in particular are an asset to the hotel.

My room was beautifully decorated with excellent attention to detail and the spa-like bathroom was such a treat.

Overall, if you want an affordable, centrally located Bath hotel with gorgeous rooms and great amenities, I recommend booking Hotel Indigo Bath
